The canal runs parallel to the Bristol Road out of Gloucester in this square before executing a sharp "S" bend to the left of the photographer. The excavations visible on the other side of the canal are to straighten out this sharp bend, http://www.gloucesterdocks.me.uk/canal/twomilecut/2mcutplans.htm unfortunately not led by the needs of the sea going ships which have used this canal, but instead to gain the necessary clearances to build a new western road bypass for Gloucester!

Dist:0.2km<br/>The Two Mile Bend (from Gloucester Docks) is being straightened. A new moving bridge is being built to carry a new Gloucester bypass. Abutment behind the lamp post spoiling the view. There was no other choice of view through chink in fencing! This is said to be the largest canal diversion this century (so far)!

Dist:0.3km<br/>The swing bridge which carries the A430 across the realigned Gloucester and Sharpness Canal was opened to traffic in May 2007. This octagonal building controls the mechanism.
