Dist:0.6km<br/>The charts show that this spot is in deep water when in fact the northwest corner of this gridsquare is actually reasonably firm sand. There is a grounded red buoy in the middle distance. I came to the conclusion that this buoy denotes where the sand turns into horrible mud.

Dist:0.8km<br/>Looking down from the railway station's bridge, the Portobello Inn is a picturesque sight in the centre of Burry Port.

Dist:0.8km<br/>The station is in the centre of Burry Port, about 6km west of Llanelli station on the West Wales Line. Pembrey is a village to the west of Burry Port. Semaphore signals control the passage of trains. The arm of the signal at the end of platform 1 is in the horizontal position, meaning stop. A go signal is indicated when the arm points downwards (at an angle of about 45 degrees).

Dist:0.9km<br/>Can you see the pig from the mud? I have no idea why the entire area where the pig wandered around (surrounded by electric fences) had no grass or any other greenery. The hotel in the background also had a distinctly unused look about it - it looked like it had suffered from a major fire.

Dist:0.9km<br/>Commemorating the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air. In June 1928 the seaplane "Friendship", flown from Newfoundland, touched down in the Burry Inlet. It was towed into Burry Port harbour, where the two male pilots and Ms Earhart came ashore to much celebration. Amelia Earhart (born Kansas 1897) went on to achieve great success as an aviator, sadly being lost over the Pacific during an attempt to fly around the world in 1937.
