Dist:0.5km east<br/>Not the easiest place to reach, down this lane/track. I never made it due to doubts that I was going the right way. Only when map checking on return home did I realise that if I'd gone just a bit further I would have been there! Very rural and some distance from today's village on the A40.

Dist:0.5km north<br/>Having taken the wrong path I drove through manicured grounds that could have passed for being ecclesiastical and rounded the bend to see these ruins, Plas Crwd, once a manor house. The lane continued beyond to open out into a spectacular courtyard where there were horses, cats and dogs, and habitated. On return, I had to find out a bit more about this lovely place. The George family lived there in the C19th and Fanny Margaret George married Thomas Reece Thomas of Llanboidy c1796-1883. He was connected to the Willy family of Lampeter Velfrey and a surgeon of Haverfordwest. Their son was Tudor Vaughan Howell Thomas 1852-1906. Link www.historicwales.gov.uk for info on the grounds. The 1907 OS map for Carmarthenshire XXXVi Sheet 16 lists an arboretum; woodland; shrubbery; lodge; gatehouse; hawhaw; house; conservatory; walled garden; carriage drive and parkland. I don't know when Plas Crwd fell into ruin.

Dist:1.0km west<br/>Baptist chapel founded 1720. A square building situated on a prominence very close to, but only just visible from, the A40 trunk road. It takes its name from a local well called ‘Ffynnon well na buwch’ which translates as ‘a well which is better than a cow’ because it produced the purest water and supposedly never dried up. NB In Welsh 'Ffynnon' means well, 'well' means better.
