Dist:0.3km<br/>Seen from the bottom of a steep sided valley which extends north west from Chewton Mendip carrying the River Chew through Litton, Sherborne and South Widcombe to the Chew Valley Lake.
This area is part of the North Somerset coalfield, now disused, there are many old shafts along this valley, lead was also mined in former times.

Dist:0.8km<br/>Public footpath Chewton Mendip WS 3/7, heading north west across the final field, before dropping down to the hamlet of Ford. The footpath follows a rather curious course, climbing out of Chewton Mendip, crossing Field Lane, running along the top of the valley above Lower Street, before descending back to the bottom of the valley. Just the same, it's a pleasant stroll above the valley. In the foreground is a traditional stone step stile.

Dist:0.8km<br/>The grass should be ready for mowing soon. The recent spell of dry weather should help it on.
Note the well trimmed hawthorn hedgerow to the left. A good strong barrier, proof against the most determined cow.

Dist:0.9km<br/>Drystone walls from blocks of limestone abound on the mendip Hills, although many are now in a poor state or repair or have become very overgrown. Drystone walling is a trade that very few people still practice.
