The "Arts and Crafts" engine houses held some early electric winding plant with power supplied by the Yorkshire Electric Power Company. There is more infoprmation in Thornes, R; Images of Industry Coal, published by RCHME in 1994. Well worth a punt. There's also a RCAHMW book on Welsh colliery engineering & architecture.

Dist:1.1km south<br/>Please (don't) come and dump it on us here! Lovely countryside, fields as far as the (photographic) eye can see, on both sides of Back Newton Lane. Despoiled sadly all along the local roads by people thoughtlessly dumping tyres, household waste, industrial and commercial rubbish at the side of the road, simply to avoid paying the costs of disposing of it safely, securely and legally.
