The remains of Leadburn railway station are now a fine car parking and picnic area.

The original Leadburn Inn, a historic 18th century building, burnt down towards the end of 2005 after a car crashed into the inn and then caught fire. After a period of three years, building work on its successor began in late-2008. When this photo was taken, in August 2009, it was nearing completion with fitting-out and landscaping still to be done. The rebuilt inn opened at the end of January 2010, under the new name of The Leadburn Bar & Restaurant.

This was where the railway carriages, a popular feature of the original building, stood. Although they initially survived the fire, they were found to have suffered smoke damage which was too costly to fix, and had to be scrapped. Note the banner, which appears to be bidding an 'official' farewell to the old inn as well as welcoming the new one.

The front of the new Leadburn Inn. Unlike its predecessor, the front of the new building faces away from the road junction. The rebuilt inn opened at the end of January 2010, under the new name of The Leadburn Bar & Restaurant.

The station was on the Peebles - Edinburgh line, opening in July 1855, and closed just under a century later in March 1955, although the line kept open until 1962 (see http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/212199/details/leadburn junction station/ )

This notorious junction at Leadburn claimed its latest life on November 12th 2005. A car travelling from the POV drove straight into the 19th century inn that stood here. The driver was killed, and the pub destroyed by fire. The ruin was demolished shortly afterwards and the site is visible as a pile of rubble.
