Lancaster is blessed with two prisons, both of which are in the photo. HMP Lancaster Castle is in the town centre, HMP Lancaster Farms is a Young Offenders Institute and is clearly visible to the left of centre of the photo.

Situated in Cawthorne Street, the original TE dates from 1952 as indicated with the George VI cipher above the entrance door on the left, whilst the later extension can just be seen on the right. The words "TELEPHONE EXCHANGE" are carved on the lower wall to the right of the original building. Its postcode is LA1 1TG.

Dist:0.1km<br/>These almshouses were built in 1720, still in a 17C style. The chapel is at the end, with a shaped gable. The buildings were restored in 1974 and are still used for their original purpose. An income is generated by the adjacent Assembly Rooms.
