Dist:0.2km<br/>Our guide expained that none of the large pools in Sutton Park is natural: they were created to drive mills. Here the light pebbly subsoil was quarried to form the dam for Keeper's Pool. The grey surface soil is an example of a podzol.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Our guide explained that the bank and ditch at the edge of the woodland, above centre, was to enclose a 16th century coppice. It cut through an older bank and ditch, foreground, which had been an enclosure for deer in the 12th century deer park.
