The 3-car DMU made its last journey from Kilmacolm to Glasgow Central. Originally the line ran west to Greenock, but the tracks were truncated at Kilmacolm in September 1966 and it became the north western terminus of the Paisley Canal Line. The station and the rest of the line closed on 10 January 1983. On its final journey, raily detonators were placed on the line to welcome and say goodbye to the last train. The site of the station is now occupied by a Public House.

This picture taken from the front of the train as it arrived at Kilmacolm station, shows the driver switching off the headlights and lighting the rear 'red' lamp for the final journey. The observant will note the opposite platform, although in existence, has no tracks, as they were lifted when the line to Greenock was closed 17 years earlier.. The station and the rest of the line closed on 10 January 1983. The site of the station is now occupied by a Public House.
