Dist:0.2km<br/>Not a very good picture with the temporary fence in the foreground. What I am trying to show for this grid square is the old storage warehouses that formed part of the massive air base complex. They are all being demolished now and a new "village" is popping up in its place.

Dist:0.5km<br/>This is a footpath that runs between the housing estate that I live on and what was part of the old R.A.F. Burtonwood Air Base. At my back runs Burtonwood Road and I'm looking a couple of degrees north of east.

Dist:0.7km<br/>This picture was taken just inside grid SJ5698 and is looking down one of the disused roads that ran around the old R.A.F. Burtonwood Base. Off in the distance you can see the new Post Office building (in an adjacent square).

Dist:0.8km<br/>The map still shows a Level Crossing where the roundabout is. This carried the line serving the US Base at RAF Burtonwood. A new road, veering left takes its place. The main road to the base, Burtonwood Road is now intersected at several points and is no longer a through road. The entrance to the Burtonwood Repair Depot was beyond the tree on the right, with the base's main gates being a few hundred yards north. Housing is increasingly covering the site.
