The tidal barrier is situated at the end of the River Hull where it meets the River Humber. This feature is only yards away from 'The Deep'... but that gets a lot of publicity anyway!

Dist:0.2km north<br/>A heritage plaque on the brick structure reads: "This 17th century watchtower marks the east point of Hull Citadel built 1681-90. The Citadel was a massive triangular fort incorporating earlier defences alongside the River Hull. It was levelled in 1863-4". The watchtower spent many years as part of the 'Khyber Pass' cliff garden and folly at Hull's East Park before being 'rescued' and installed here (see [[214532]]). Other sources express some surprise that it survived in the park as the Khyber Pass was a popular play area for children, but I was one of those children and we always avoided the tower because of the stench (it was regularly used by people who couldn't make it to the nearest public toilet).
