Looking north-west across the busy grid square, from an attic window of the adjacent Midland Grand Hotel at St. Pancras [[TQ3082]], we see this square's most prominent feature, Cubitt's 1852 frontage for the Great Northern Railway at King's Cross. Redevelopment should soon see the plain flat-roofed buildings in front (bottom right) knocked down, revealing the full height of the frontage for the first time in 100 years.

Battlebridge Basin is sandwiched between these office blocks. The building on the right is the recently opened King's Place, which incorporates an arts venue as well as offices - a symbol of the way King's Cross is changing.

The London Canal Museum is situated at the head of the basin. The towpath west of here is currently closed, a diversion exists around the rear of St Pancras railway station rejoining off Camley Street.

New Wharf Road is tucked away between Wharfdale Road and the Regent's Canal. The entrance to the London Canal Museum is here; to the rear of the building is a large canal basin.
