Dist:0.2km<br/>War memorial in the centre of Kilkhampton to Lieut-Colonel Algernon Carteret Thynne who was killed in 1917. 'Lt.-Col. Algernon Carteret Thynne was born on 9 April 1868. He was the son of Francis John Thynne and Edith Marcia Caroline Sheridan. He married, secondly, Anita Constance Edith Bonham, daughter of Edward Bonham, on 13 February 1904. He died on 6 November 1917 at age 49. Lt.-Col. Algernon Carteret Thynne fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the North Somerset Yeomanry Cavalry. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 3rd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. He was decorated with the Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.). He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Royal North Devon Hussars. He fought in the First World War.' Dist:0.3km<br/>In contrast to the disused draper's shop nearby, this toy shop can sell specialist goods not obtainable from supermarkets. It is in a good position on the main road into the tourist area of Cornwall - holiday presents for the kiddies!.

Dist:0.4km<br/>A spacious church; the long nave and aisles have seven bays and wagon roofs with carved timbers. The west tower has buttresses. The south porch is dated 1567 and shelters a Norman doorway with four decorated arches and interesting capitals, with zigzags and snouted faces. The 157 carved bench-ends are of c1500-60. The Grenville family were patrons.
