Stone monument near the western entrance to the churchyard off Church Lane, dedicated to Eleanor, beloved wife of C C Francis, who died on 24th October 1867 and to her infant daughter Sarah who died in 1852. Most of the headstones at St Nicholas were taken up at some point and lined up against the south wall of the churchyard. A new parish cemetery on Eastfield Road http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/263338 was in use from December 1898 after the churchyard became too full.

Looking north-northeast from Church Lane. The basic Norman structure of this ancient church has seen many alterations over the centuries. The tower collapsed when struck by lightning in 1392 and a 100 ft. spire was added during the repairs, but the spire was removed in 1969 to reduce the load on the tower.

Cherry Garth, the small field to the west of Church Lane, Keyingham was considered for the site of a new cemetery in 1895 but Hull Road brewer James Jackson complained about possible contamination to his water supply and the cemetery was sited on Eastfield Road instead. Highland cows and calves are now a regular feature here.

Dist:0.1km<br/>In 1743 the minister for Keyingham and Burton Pidsea, John Pearson, described the vicarage at Keyingham as 'only a Poor mud Cottage & therefore I live at another house in this Town'. It is thought that 'The Old Vicarage' (pictured) in Station Road may have been the house where Pearson chose to live. In 1764 the vicarage (presumably the one described by Pearson) occupied part of the green now known as the Garth a little way north of here. It was a house of only two rooms with a passage in between, built of wood, mud and thatch. By 1777 the vicarage on the green no longer existed [information from 'Keyingham and its People - the Story of a Millennium' ISBN 0 9536486 0 5].

Dist:0.1km<br/>On 27 September 1806 Jeremiah Matcham sold a building apparently already in use as a Methodist chapel to a group of thirteen trustees (including himself), and on 20 May 1807 the chapel was registered as a place of worship. The chapel on the south side of Waldby Garth Road was recorded as being thirteen yards long from east to west and eleven yards wide from north to south, which doesn't quite tally with the dimensions of the present barn on the site. The barn does however have the remains of interior plastering (unusual for just a barn) and it may be that the original building was demolished shortly after purchase and a new chapel erected in its place. The building closed as a place of worship when a new chapel was built on Chapel Lane in 1848, and was later used by the Keyingham Level Drainage Board to house the boat used in clearing Keyingham Drain [information from 'Keyingham and its people - the story of a millennium' ISBN 0 9536486 0 5].
