Mews cottages usually are found in the back lanes and contain former stabling which is often converted into a garage. This cobbled lane of mews cottages lies south of Kensington High Street. This week, 2 bedroom mews cottages in London are being sold for about £1.3 million!!!

Kensington Church Street is a major artery and shopping street. Most buildings are of brick with shops at street level. Above are the war memorial and the Prince of Wales pub.

The parish church sits at the corner of Kensington High and Church streets. It was rebuilt by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1869-72 and has a 254 feet high spire, reputedly London's highest spire, modelled on St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol. Its name comes from the 1100 grant of land in Kensington to abbots in Abingdon.

The palace was formerly known as Nottingham House. It was bought from the Earl of Nottingham by William and Mary in 1689 for £18,000.

The rodents at Kensington Palace are tame and eagerly touch up visitors for a biscuit or a nut.

Kensington is "Embassy Land". There is an obvious functional agglomeration of these in the rich housing area south of Hyde Park. These are the Belarussian and Mongolian embassies in Kensington Court.

The gates are reminiscent of Tijou's work at Hampton Court.

Kensington has many of these visible signs of foreign occupation. This one is outside the Mongolian embassy and the one half shown is outside the Belarussian embassy. Note the Victorian lamp-post and the rich brickwork and facings of the buildings.

Early Christmas decorations line the Milestone Hotel, Kensington. Christmas lights and shopping in London attracts much tourism. In the distance is Kensington Gardens.
