Dist:0.1km<br/>Bath Street is the main shopping street in the town and runs down the hill from the Market Place. This view near the lower end of the street is known as the "Bottom of Town". The shop fronts and the businesses have changed over the years but the upper storeys remain virtually the same, many with ornate brick and terracotta decorations.

Dist:0.1km<br/>Traffic approaching Ilkeston on the A6007 from the north arrives at the large roundabout ahead, with a choice of proceeding via Awsworth Road, Rutland Street, Chalons Way, Bath Street or Manners Road.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The buildings here at the bottom of Bath Street date from the late Victorian period. Pelham Avenue leads off to the left; the name commemorates the Hon. T.H.W. Pelham, president of the commission of inquiry that proposed borough status for the town.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Seen at its junction with Bath Street. The shop is empty and to let but the building looks well maintained, including the old wall sign. The name 'Station Road' derives from the days when this was the way to Ilkeston Junction station, one of three serving the town, all of which have long disappeared.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Looking down Ilkeston's steep main shopping street. The top end of the street is now pedestrianised, limiting the traffic in this view further down; through traffic now has a by-pass, a far cry from the days when the street was clogged with cars, lorries and buses chugging their way up the hill.

Dist:0.6km<br/>A light industrial estate just to the north west of the town centre. Most householders in Erewash will know this bit of road as the next turn to the right leads (as can be seen by the sign) to the borough's only "Refuse Amenity Site".

Dist:0.7km<br/>A terrace of three dwellings has recently been squeezed onto a tiny plot of land and despite bays being painted and numbered for the residents' vehicles, someone obviously has scant regard for the parking restrictions. Maybe the sign on the wall isn't big enough or perhaps the driver has poor eyesight.

Dist:0.7km<br/>Maybe the sign writer got carried away by the double letters in 'Cappuccino'. Maybe he/she was thinking of 'wining' and dining a loved one. Maybe doubling the award meant doubling a letter. Maybe it was a deliberate ploy based on Ronnie Barker's 'Open All Hours' comedy to encourage customers into the shop and then to sell them something they didn't really want. Or perhaps it was just an honest mistake. Whatever the reason the numerous signs outside the shops have become a feature of Bath Street. At one time the town was renowned for its variety of shops including major national chain stores but now it is predominantly (although not exclusively) estate agents, mobile phone shops and fast food outlets.

Dist:0.7km<br/>The fair did not close until late on Saturday evening but before mid-day on Sunday the Market Place had been cleared as the showmen worked through the night to take down their rides and sideshows ready to move on to their next venue. A few lorries remained in the surrounding streets and it would be a few days later before the Magic Mouse roller coaster in Pimlico was eventually dismantled. To the uninformed though, it would be hard to believe that the Market Place had been such a hive of excitement and activity during the previous week.
