The fenced area is the entrance to the Fawley Tunnel, a 4 metre diameter concrete and cast iron ring lined tunnel, constructed in the 1960's. The tunnel is used only for connecting the overhead power lines in the background with Fawley Power Station, on the far side of Southampton Water.

The coastal path goes along the shoreline here, if the tide is out, but walkers are being advised to use the inland route to our left when the tide is in. Dist:0.6km<br/>A permanent caravan park is sited very close to the high water line, and coastal defence works have been carried out here to prevent further erosion. A public footpath is marked along the foreshore here, this side of the barrier, but as can be seen it is not accessible at high tide.
