Dist:0.4km<br/>Note the plane, on its descent to Birmingham Airport. The HON (Honiley) VOR-DME navigation aid is positioned to the south of the vehicle test track on the former RAF Honiley airfield (according to Wikipedia). In mid-afternoon planes were coming over every few minutes. Vehicles travelled this quiet lane at about the same frequency.

Pevsner's 'Warwickshire' refers to Moat Farmhouse, timber-framed, c.1500 with original roof-timbers. Located at 2¾ miles SE of Temple Balsall, this could be the site. Arden has many moated manors and farmhouses.

Dist:0.4km<br/>This section of the A4177 is a relatively recent road, probably pre-dating the M40. It provided a fast route between Warwick and the A452 at Balsall Common, thence west along the A45 to Birmingham. Avoiding hamlets in the Honiley area it offered an alternative to the slow A452 through Kenilworth and the twisting old A41 through Knowle and Solihull.
