One of the best and oldest pubs juxtaposed with a piece of modern architecture in Bridgewater place.

The Temple Mills (1838 – 43) were designed by Egyptologist and architect Joseph Bonomi Jun for John Marshall, founder of the Leeds flax industry. The mill had one large open room which was said to be ‘the largest room in the world’. To prevent rainwater penetrating the flat roof, the roof was covered on the outside with plaster,tar, earth and grass to insulate. It is said that a flock of sheep grazed upon the grass.

Dist:0.1km north<br/>The bridge was rebuilt as a steel through-girder in 2001. A combination of high skew and vertical alignment compelled the designer to use three main girders, with one forming a central reservation to the road. The steel plate girders are protected from corrosion and impact by concrete.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>The Sweet street West railway bridge was closed to traffic in 1979 when a double decker bus smashed into the bridge. That was the last in a long series of bridge strikes by over-height vehicles, including buses and lorries. Almost 30 years later it has finally been re-opened.
