It doesn't appear to be lived in but may well be used in some way in connection with the larger cottage nearby shown in this image [[611539]] There is a public footpath through the garden here but it is not well-defined. I hope I was on it when this image was obtained.

Dist:0.2km<br/>I am unsure how the numbering works here. On the gate appears the number 28 and on the smaller cottage visible on the left is a sign that reads 'Pheasant Cottage'. The record on the English Heritage website refers to 28 and 29 as having been listed Grade II in 1955 and that they date from the 16th century or earlier. There is no image to refer to however. This is the relevant web page http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=318314 should anyone wish to inquire further. I have read elsewhere that these cottages are probably of a similar type to those that once stood in the abandoned village of Snap seen here [[245953]]

Dist:0.3km<br/>This magnificent old thatched cottage was occupied by the gamekeeper on the Burderop estate. The writer Richard Jefferies mentions it in at least two of his books, ''Bevis-the Story of a Boy'' and ''The Gamekeeper at Home''. Later, the biographer of Richard Jefferies, and a WW1 poet, Edward Thomas was so inspired by RJ's writing that he spent his honeymoon in this cottage.

Dist:0.6km<br/>The image was obtained from 3 metres south of the north gridline of this square so the corner of the lay-by and about 30 metres of the hedge are in the square. Also visible at the left is a public house, the Calley Arms, on the centre horizon the plumes of water vapour from Didcot Power Station 35 kms away to the east and, on the right horizon, Liddington Hill.

Dist:0.6km<br/>A single track runs south through this square; the area is highly farmed, and machinery like this is a common sight. Taken just after harvest, the fields were being tilled as this was taken

Dist:0.7km<br/>In contrast to the field in this image http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/952460 the farmer has been able to gather in the crop. Whether there will be much profit in it after the excess costs of drying the wheat occasioned by the wet weather have been met is unknown. There is a bridleway leading away from the viewpoint close to the field margin.

Dist:0.7km<br/>One of the saddest sights to be seen this year. There are hectares of cereal crop around these parts that are long past the time when they should have been harvested. The consequences of the persistent damp weather are going to be reduced yields, loss of profit to the farmers, who will have to pay the cost of drying, and increased food prices.
