With the cones already out, these towers will no longer greet motorists entering Sheffield along the M1 from the north.

Picture taken from the Upper Marks & Spencer Car Park at Meadowhall Shopping Centre. These 'Two Iconic Cooling Towers' were the only ones left from the seven which formed Blackburn Meadows Power Station. The Power Station was built in the late 1930's and operated until the 1970's, when five of the towers were demolished. These (remaining) two were demolished in August 2008 ... and will be missed by some ... but probably not by most! [[948398]]
