<br/>The cemetery chapel is in Classical style and is dated 1853, perhaps before the fashion for the Gothic style reached Cleckheaton. It is listed Grade II, otherwise it might well have been demolished like the one up the road in the New Cemetery in Scholes. The listing states that the portico and pediment are Doric tetrastyle, the order continuing as pilasters to three-bay side walls.

<br/>This is a very pleasant library, well lit inside by roof-lights and surrounded by a small park. A plaque in the entrance hall records that it was presented to the people of Cleckheaton by Mr & Mrs John G Mowat and family. It was opened on 14 Nov 1930.

Dist:0.1km north<br/>The nearer of the semis is captioned Whitechapel Vicarage on the large-scale OS map. The side of the house shows signs of having had an extension, since removed. The semis are dated 1904 over the doors, and the detached house beyond is probably of similar date (it is shown on the 1907 OS map).

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Corner shops often have a corner door with a shaped lintel over, with a variety of decorative features. In 1850 Scott Lane was the lower end of Wickcliffe lane, as it was spelt then, and had fields each side. Old lanes like this became the basis for the suburban development of the later 19C.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>This is a junior school; the doorway has 'girls' inscribed over it – the entrance for boys is at the other end. It was built after 1907, by which time the development of the area had started and streets laid out. The modern-day need for security fencing makes it difficult to get a clear view – perhaps I should have climbed a tree!
