Dist:0.2km north<br/>Higham Hill is some fifty feet or so above the Lea valley. This area represented the northern limit of Walthamstow's nineteenth century terraced housing whose development the opening of the railway to Chingford in the early 1870s did much to encourage.

Dist:1.1km northwest<br/>The renovated towpath alongside the Lee and Stort Navigation provides a wonderful linear traffic-free route from Essex and Hertfordshire into central London for walkers and cyclists. Here, just south of Edmonton a branch looping Banbury Reservoir (coming in from the left) re-joins the main route, with London ahead.

Dist:1.3km north<br/>This is not the most attractive part of the Lea (or Lee) Valley. The A406 North Circular road crosses the river, canal and various drainage channels. There are electricity pylons, gas holders, industrial estates and retail sheds. This picture was taken near a pumping station, close to Banbury reservoir and Costco.

Dist:1.3km northwest<br/>Historically Chalk Bridge carried an old track over the Navigation here. Today the bridge marks the boundaries between three London Boroughs. Enfield is beyond the bridge, the photographer is in Haringey, and off to the right is Waltham Forest.

Dist:1.3km north<br/>The River Lee (or Lea) used to slowly meander through this area, but in order to better control the flow of water, and to provide space for the various reservoirs down this part of the Lee valley, this long broad concrete conduit was built, probably between the two World Wars. This is the view looking north from the Harbet Road bridge. The boundary between the London Boroughs of Enfield to the left, and Waltham Forest to the right, passes down the centre of the river.
