Dist:0.4km<br/>Canalside pubs are at a premium in South Yorkshire and a scramble through thick vegetation was required to capture both features here. The pub is the Elephant and Castle and the canal is the Elsecar branch of the Dearne and Dove.

Dist:0.5km<br/>More properly known as the Elsecar Branch of the Dearne and Dove Canal which linked the River Don Navigation with the Barnsley Canal. The Elsecar branch was built to serve the coal mines and so went past many of them. The majority of the towpath is on the Elsecar Greenway, part of the Trans Pennine Trail. Although no longer navigable much of the canal remains in water and there are plans to restore it.

Dist:0.5km<br/>This is still used as a pumping pit and there are two shafts. There is a beam winder house (left) and a Cornish pumping engine house converted to a dwelling. This is from the public road alongside and taken so as to preserve the privacy of the owner of the converted engine house.

Dist:0.6km<br/>The remaining structures here include two concrete headframes and three engine houses. The tall building to the left is one of these, and the stone building just visible to the right is a second. This has been extended in brick as a private dwelling, but originally would have housed a beam engine, probably for pumping purposes. The brick building in the middle is the third engine house which appears to have housed a replacement winding engine for the nearer beam engine, working the concrete headframe just visible. This is connected to the old engine house, but at an angle so that there is a straight draw to the pulley from the new engine house.
