Dist:0.1km north<br/>This photograph shows a view of barn with a thatched roof - a very unusual sight in this area. The barn is located in a field near Dagger Stones Wood. The minor road that runs between Thirns and Healaugh can just be seen in the left-hand side of the image. The picture was taken looking in a south-easterly direction towards Healaugh.

Dist:0.5km north<br/>This refurbished property, together with the adjoining fields is marked as Five Intakes on the large scale OS map, which is odd as there appear to be only four 'intake' fields here. Maybe the fifth is a separate field further to the east. 'Intakes' with cottages are quite common in Swaledale and are often associated with the lead miners, who usually found it hard to make a living simply from mining, so were allowed to take in some land from the moor for small scale farming.
