These locomotives, of which some 70 were built, were introduced mainly for local passenger services on the LMS. Here 40010 is seen on a service from Belmont. As far as I am aware, no example of the class has been preserved.

There is now no track alongside this platform, which was used formerly for the branch trains to Belmont and (until 1952) Stanmore village. The locomotive in [[1322989]] is standing at this platform.

Redolent of the nineteen-fifties is this view of commuters about to board the 08.26 steam train from Harrow and Wealdstone to Euston. Stopping only at Willesden Junction, it was much quicker than the local electric train or the Bakerloo line tube which were the alternatives.

This station was opened by the London and Birmingham Railway (L&BR) as Harrow on 20 July 1837 in what was then rural Middlesex. The initials of the London & North Western Railway (successor to the L&BR) can be seen carved in stone above the doors

An important commuter station. On the West Coast Main Line.

This is a Down platform for trains to Euston and also trains to Croydon via the West London line. There is no track on the other side of this island platform: the erstwhile platform 7 was once used for trains to Belmont and Stanmore Village, but they ceased many years ago.

This is the Bakerloo line platform on the Underground part.

Once it has left the confines of Baker Street, the Metropolitan Railway runs above ground - sometimes well above ground, as here where a Baker Street to Uxbridge train pauses at Northwick Park in the heart of Middlesex commuter-land.

The A409 road has been diverted away from Wealdstone High Street. the road is already at a raised level, crossing the railway (behind the photographer), and continues on another bridge before descending back to ground level.
