Dist:0.6km<br/>The very busy A52 passes through the village of Kingsley in the Staffordshire moorlands. This view is to the west towards Cellarhead. To the east of Kingsley is Froghall, with its preserved railway and the wharf on the Cauldon canal.

For a wider view [[1879518]] Milestones/posts did not come into general use until the Turnpike Act of 1766 made them compulsory on turnpike roads, these roads were built by private enterprise under licence from the Government and maintained by tolls on those who used them. Before this Act milestones were put up occasionally, often as charitable acts and commemorations. Many Turnpike Act stones still exist. They are usually 2-3 ft high, with the initial letter or abbreviation of the nearest market town show on two faces, and the distance from it.

Dist:0.8km<br/>Bridge 52 on the Caldon Canal was provided by the railway company when the railway was built in the 1840s. In order to squeeze the railway in this narrow valley, the canal channel was moved closer to the wooded side and the towpath moved to the other side of the canal. The design of the bridge allows a horse towing a narrowboat to cross over the canal and continue without the towing rope having to be unhitched.
