Dist:0.4km<br/>The A449 is a very dangerous road, despite it being dual carriageway on this stretch. In an effort to cut accidents, in places the carriageways have been made single lane. Also further towards Kidderminster the speed limit drops to 50 mph, and then to 40 mph. There are also several speed cameras. Despite these steps, each year there are still fatal accidents on this road, mainly through people driving too fast. Additionally there have been cases, in the small hours, of cars being tricked into stopping and then robbed. Drive with care!

That will be fixed when the link between the Barge & Junction Canals in Droitwich is completed. That is proposed for 2011, but the track record of adhering to promised dates is, to put it kindly, disappointing. See:- [[2246609]].

Dist:0.4km<br/>Under the re-numbering scheme, which apparently reverts to the practice of 200 years ago, this lock, which has been known for a very long time as number 7, now becomes number 2. It's at a point where the canal and the River Salwarpe are very near to each other. The good news is that in September 2010, the first boat to enter the canal from the River Severn in 80 years, passed through this lock on its way to Droitwich. Unfortunately that's as far as it could get, because the crucial link between the Barge & Junction Canals is still missing. This, we are now told, will be provided in 2011, when a canalisation project on a short stretch of river in Droitwich will be undertaken. This will enable water to be obtained from the Worcestershire & Birmingham Canal, which is required to bring levels in the Barge Canal to that required for navigation. British Waterways will then be able to open the Barge Canal on a permanent basis. People who have been following the saga of continual postponed dates for re-opening over the past few years, might wish at this point to take a large pinch of best quality Droitwich salt, before planning to bring their narrowboat here in 2011.

Dist:0.4km<br/>This is a nice touch. A welcome sign affixed to what appears to be an old upturned lock gate. It is to be found very near to lock no. 2 (formerly no. 7) of the Droitwich Barge Canal, part of which can be seen on the right of the picture.
