Dist:0.2km<br/>Diesel 3 car DMU terminating at Shirley (as they did regularly) on the south platform, having arrived from Moor Street. Much of the station functionality (including toilets) were still in use at this time. Returning trains would pull up beyond the road bridge ahead, before crossing over to northern platform for services back to Birmingham. Notice the lamp on back of train. In these days driver or guard would have to remove this themselves and replace on other end of train (unlike modern trains).

Dist:0.2km<br/>Here the Cole flows north, adjacent to Aqueduct Road and under the road bridge at Green Lane. The former site of a ford and pedestrian footbridge, the road was totally realigned when the bridge was built in the 1970's to make Aqueduct Road and Green Lane into a continuous carriageway.

Dist:0.2km<br/>On the GWR "North Warwicks" line from Tyseley to Stratford-upon-Avon. At the time when the picture was taken this station was also the turnback point for local services from Birmingham Snow Hill and was still controlled by semaphore signalling, albeit turned upside-down after the Midland Region took over responsibility for maintenance!

Dist:0.3km<br/>A chance stop-off at Shirley, and encountered a routine I thought no longer happened. A service from Birmingham, terminated, and after a hoot to phone operator / signal staff, train reverses back across tracks to begin a service back to Birmingham and beyond. Lovely to see the old signals still in operation. From the signboard on the train, the destination is apparently Kidderminster (Via Snow Hill). Kidderminster services used to run into New Street, but now run into Snow Hill. Very often, they then continue through to (in this case) Shirley, or Dorridge, creating a 2nd cross-city service
