Dist:0.8km<br/>A mysterious object in the farmyard looking like a cross shaft standing on a mounting block. In fact it is a sundial with a small metal dial on the top. I haven't been able to find any information regarding its history, so will have to rely on a visitor to the site who may be able to help.

Dist:0.8km<br/>This superb farmhouse was built in 1661 by Thomas Braithwaite of Ambleside, supposedly for his mistress. It stand a little to the north of the original monastic lodge that was part of the Fountains Abbey estate. There are a few remains of this earlier lodge in a nearby field wall. The lodge is now a working farm and offers B&B and holiday cottage accommodation.

Dist:0.9km<br/>This may have been an open moor once, but the land was enclosed and improved in the second half of the 19th century, so the path now follows one of the straight field walls. Nice stone step and gap stile using big through stones for the steps.

Dist:0.9km<br/>Late C17 Grade II listed two storey outbuilding. The lower storey is said by English Heritage to contain a blacksmith's hearth and intact bellows. [[2575023]] shows another view and additional information.

Dist:0.9km<br/>Late C17 Grade II listed outbuilding which according to English Heritage was probably a bakehouse, built away from the main building because of the fire risk and often referred to as an "oven house" in C17 records. This view is of the upper storey, also remembered as a "schoolroom". The lower storey, see [[2575052]] is said to contain a blacksmith's hearth and intact bellows.
