Dist:0.2km north<br/>Traditional barbershop that has seen better days. I used to get my hair cut here when I was at school, a very long time ago! Not much has changed in 40 years. I bet the barbers still ask 'anything for the weekend sir?' Planning permission was granted in January 2007 for Lincoln Parade to be redeveloped as housing, so I wonder how much longer the shops will be here.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>No sooner have the gas contractors finished their work than the water contractors dig up the road. And...No sooner have they finished than the gas contractors are back again! Temporary traffic control at the junction of East End Road and High Road. Fortis Green is opposite.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Sitting on the corner of the High Road and East End Road, the pub has just been refurbished and now resembles a pint of stout with a very large head. The garden is full of customers on a warm June evening.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Originally the Rex, the cinema was saved from demolition by the Phoenix Trust which celebrated its 21st birthday in December 2006. A wide range of films are shown from arthouse to blockbusters.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>On a dull March evening, a Northbound 263 bus collects homeward bound commuters on the Great North Road, East Finchley. Traffic usually queues here due to the traffic lights at the junction with the A504, Fortis Green.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Housed in a modern style of building on East End Road, the darker yellow bricks on the lower walls hint at a previous use. This was once East Finchley's public convenience - conveniently placed behind the Bald Faced Stag public house (car park on the left).

Dist:0.3km north<br/>On the High Road, East Finchley, at the junction with Huntingdon Road. Fast food in abundance here with the Mandarin chinese restaurant sandwiched between KFC and Best Kebab.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>Another 1980's housing development. The estate is built on an area of open land that sat between the railway line and a footpath leading down to East Finchley station. Approximately where I am standing, the footpath was carried over a siding in a cutting by a small bridge. It was constructed in the 1920's and I believe it was used to supply a builders merchant (Gray's?) at a time when the area was rapidly growing. The remains of the siding with one decomposing wagon were still there in the early 1970's. The main railway goods sidings were closer to the station and are now a car park.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>Buses on the 263 and 102 routes wait in the queue of traffic beside the station while a taxi stands on the forecourt. The traffic jam has been caused by the temporary lights up the hill at the junction of High Road and Fortis Green

Dist:0.3km north<br/>Majestic Wine Warehouse and Clissold Arms on Fortis Green, looking towards East Finchley. The road narrows by around 6 feet per lane just past the pub. With the parked cars, it's not a good place to meet a bus!

Dist:0.3km north<br/>Parade of shops on the west side of the High Road (A1000). Most of the shops are not yet open. The balustrades have been removed from the roofline of some of the shops, presumably for safety reasons. Commuters march past on their way to East Finchley Station.
