The former Duke of Wellington pub at the corner of Wellington Road and Burton's Road, Hampton Hill, pictured in 1990. The building stands totally derelict following a major fire. It has since been turned into housing. I don't think it was a great loss to the local drinking community as there is a much better pub round the corner.

This is the old Duke of Wellington as it looks in 2007, quite well converted into two town houses. Compare this picture to the earlier one of the pub standing derelict.

Dist:1.0km west<br/>This is the band of No. 267 Squadron, Air Training Corps leading a parade along Saint James' Road, Hampton Hill in 1971. I cannot remember the exact event. The Officer on the left is Gordon Tims.

Dist:1.0km east<br/>This was one of the entrants in a fund raising pram race in April or May 1986. I have submitted this picture as it shows the school field and houses behind. This field was once an estate of Victorian terraced houses until the whole area was devastated by a Nazi V-2 rocket in 1945. Post war the area was only partly redeveloped, the bulk becoming a school playing field. The rooves of the semi-detached houses in the background still show signs of repair work carried out after the bombing.

Dist:1.0km south<br/>A view of the Pantile Bridge in Hampton Hill taken in glorious black and white in the winter of 1974/75. The bridge takes the A311 over the Longford River where it flows into Bushy Park. I remember this view very well, as it is where I waited for my No.267 bus to school from 1968 until 1975. (The buses weren't quite as infrequent as this last comment seems to suggest, although sometimes it felt like it!). If anybody looking at this picture has a copy of "The birth and growth of Hampton Hill" edited by Margery Orton and published in 1965, they might like to compare this with the 1890s picture facing page 54. to the right of the bridge was a 'watersplash', and some of the trees are still recognisable 80 years on.

Dist:1.0km south<br/>This building, close to and opposite the end of Windmill Road, was until 1913 a pub called the Brewery Tap, and nicknamed 'The Old Mud Hut'. When pictured in 1975 it was a private house, but not long after became a sports shop. I don't know what it is in use for today - perhaps somebody could enlighten me? If you have access to a copy of "The Birth and Growth of Hampton Hill" by Margery Orton and published in 1975, have a look at the picture of the pub taken about 1910.
