Dist:0.4km<br/>Junction 4 on the M5 is not a great example of the genre. It marks the boundary between the original 1962 section of the M5 (south to Strensham) and the 1963 extension northwards for one junction. The two sections meet on a tight curve and were both built with only two lanes, plus emergency lane, in each direction. The M5 was subsequently widened, but no effort was expended either to rebuild the roundabout bridges, or to ease the curve. As can be seen, both bridges have very solid abutments that completely occupy the space required for an emergency lane. A very nasty place to break down indeed. Dist:0.4km<br/>This depot, just off junction 4 of the M5, is particularly busy just now as it is where salt/grit for the roads is stored ready for use in bad weather. The curious conical shape in the centre of the picture is the roof of the salt barn. This is 21 metres in diameter and 12 metres high.
