The cottages in this picture are on Silver Lane, Hackforth. The sheep are grazing in a very lumpy field, with lots of earthworks. It maybe that the village of Hackforth moved or shrunk.

Dist:0.8km<br/>Mucky country lane crosses over Bow Bridge. This is also where the parish boundary is; Ainderby Mires with Holtby to the East, and Hackforth to the West.

Dist:0.8km<br/>A small lowland stream that issues forth in SE2193 as Claypits Beck, and finally joins the River Swale at SE3189 as Bedale Beck.

Dist:1.0km<br/>There's not a lot to see from the corner of this square. Just a field with a winter crop of stubble turnips. The trees along the edge of the field follow the line of Bowbridge Beck. I took my GPS unit with me, to make sure I was in this square.

Dist:1.1km south<br/>In the distance is Ainderby Mires. Ainderby is a Scandinavian place name and means the village belonging to Eindrithi, a Viking whose name meant 'sole-ruler'. The 'Mires' means marsh land.
