Dist:0.1km<br/>The name Gussage comes from the Anglo-Saxon "Gwysych", which means a bourne stream (Gwy = water; sych = dry. A stream which dries up). There is a small scrapyard in the village. The tractor is a Fordson Major.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Christianity came to Gussage St Michael in Saxon times. The oldest part of the church is 12th century. Dorset was part of the Diocese of Bristol at that time and it is also known that King Alfred gave lands in Gussage to Shaftesbury Abbey in the 10th century.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Cob wall in front of Lower Farm, with tiled coping and flint base. Cob structures were made of mud and whatever was available locally, in this case chalk. The wall has been patched up over the years with flints, bricks and breezeblocks.
