Dist:0.8km west<br/>Hither Green Cemetery covers 65 acres. Almost in the centre is a memorial to all the people of Lewisham who died in the Second World War. In the foreground is a grave containing 31 children aged 5-15, and a teacher. The local Sandhurst Road School was bombed in 1943. 38 children and 6 adults died. Behind the trees in the background is the railway line into London. About 1/2 a mile from this spot lived E. Nesbit who wrote The Railway Children.

Dist:0.9km south<br/>Looking north. This was the centre of the huge municipal housing estate opened by the London County Council in 1928. The pub dates from 1930, when it was built as the only public house for an area with a population approaching 30,000.

Dist:1.3km west<br/>Typical housing on the Downham Estate between Catford and Bromley, which when the London County Council built it in the 1920's was said to be one of the largest housing estates in Europe.

Dist:1.3km west<br/>St Mark's on the corner of Castillon Road and Baudwin Road was originally a prefabricated building erected at the same time as [[406260]]. The present building dates from around 1960. The cycle markings on the road indicate that the London Cycle Network is routed through the quiet roads of this estate.

Dist:1.4km west<br/>Nearly 200 of these single-storey prefabricated houses in asbestos cement and timber were erected on the Downham Estate in 1948. They have lasted a lot longer than the 10 years they were designed for, but may be replaced in the next few years. This view is on Baudwin Road.
