Dist:0.3km north<br/>Designed by the architect Sir Herbert Baker RA, construction of the bridge commenced in September 1930 and it was opened by the Prince of Wales in July 1933, simultaneously with Twickenham Bridge and Hampton Court Bridge. The bridge has three main spans and two smaller ones and is made of reinforced concrete clad with Portland Stone. It carries the A316 road over the river between Chiswick and Mortlake. The post on the left, with its light blue and dark blue bands, may be the finishing post for the University Boat Race. Perhaps someone can enlighten us?

Dist:0.7km north<br/>At first sight this looks like an unlikely setting for a long distance footpath, but the Thames Path has to part company with the river here for about a kilometre and run parallel to it, and about 200 metres away, through the Grove Park conservation area. The tree with the yellowish foliage is a false acacia.

Dist:0.8km east<br/>The bridge was originally constructed in 1849 to the design of Joseph Locke, utilizing three cast iron spans, which are visible on the upstream or near side of the bridge in this photograph. However doubts about the long term stability of cast iron concerned later Victorian engineers, and a new bridge, using wrought iron trusswork, was built on the downstream side of the original, to the design of Edward Andrews, between 1891 and 1895. The Locke bridge was subsequently abandoned for rail traffic. Today the bridge carries Network Rail's trackwork between Barnes Bridge and Chiswick stations.

Dist:0.9km east<br/>Well known to boat race afficionados is this triple iron bowstring girder bridge, which has Grade II Listed status. It wes reconstructed in 1895 from the older bridge of 1849. The bridge carries the Hounslow Loop Line.
