The moss is flat, verdant pasture drained by several becks and straight drainage ditches. The water enters the River Bela and eventually Morecambe Bay via the Kent estuary.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The public footpath from Holme to Hale accompanies the beck as it flows across the flat moss. The clump of Scots pines is marked on large-scale maps (single conifer symbol) - an indication of the lack of upstanding landmarks perhaps.

Dist:0.2km<br/>A square mile or so of flat land to the south-west of the village of Holme (the name means 'island'). Horses are often kept in this field, and the corrugated iron structure is for bags of manure.

Dist:0.6km<br/>From the map this appears to be nameless although it could be Furness Runner or Main Drain, both of which take water from Hale Moss to the south west. It runs past Hale Green (white buildings visible in the distance) to join Holme Beck and thence the River Bela shortly after.

Dist:0.7km<br/>Built in the late 1990s, this bridge carries the Limestone Link, a popular walk from Arnside to Kirkby Lonsdale, over the West Coast Main Line. Before it was built walkers had to take their chances at a level crossing.

Dist:0.9km<br/>Holme grew from a small hamlet into a village around the turn of the 19th century, and the church was built in 1839. The village's prime location close to Kendal, Lancaster and the M6 means that it's still expanding - the yellow signs point to new developments. Trinity House is one of the larger houses in the village, and with its three storeys has more of a town house feel to it.
