Dist:0.7km<br/>East Roman Gravels lead mine was also known as Wood mine and was owned by the Earl of Tankerville. The Hope brook carved out a valley which exposed many galena veins and in the eighteenth century, adits were driven into the hillside to exploit them. Beside the road is the truncated stone chimney of the ore crusher house. Of the crusher itself, only the foundations remain.

The engine house, which is built of red brick and local stone, appears to have housed an engine which could be used for both winding or pumping. Dist:0.8km<br/>Seen from Stapeley Hill. There are many old mine workings in this area. The foreground is in [[SO3199]] which falls away sharply. The A488 may just be seen on the left; the road sweeping through the plantation on the right goes to Shelve. Beyond the plantation, on the horizon, is the Stiperstones.
