Dist:0.3km<br/>The smallest of the North Holderness parishes, Goxhill (thought to mean 'Cuckoo Hill') was united with the civil parishes of Great and Little Hatfield to form Hatfield parish in 1935, and may be the site of the lost village of Arnestorp recorded in 1086. A church existed at Goxhill by the early 13th century and was dedicated to St. Giles by 1412. The building has a history of falling into disrepair and being largely rebuilt again often at the expense of the Constable family of Wassand, some of whom are buried here (a floor stone with an inscription to Marmaduke Constable who died in 1690 is visible in the photograph). Major restoration work was carried out on the tower in October 2005.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Former level crossing and gatehouse on the disused Hull & Hornsea railway line between Great Hatfield village and Goxhill. In 1846 the York & North Midland Railway Co. was granted permission to build a line from Beverley to Hornsea, and in 1861 Joseph Armytage Wade promoted the building of a line from Hornsea to Hull and the Hull & Hornsea Railway Co. was formed. The line opened in 1864 but after little or no financial success the company merged with North Eastern Railway in 1866. Just northeast of Wassand Low Crossing was Goxhill Station, which opened in 1864 and was renamed Wassand Station in 1904. Wassand closed for passengers in 1953 and entirely in 1960, before the closure of the line in 1965. A mile or so southwest of here, Hatfield Station also opened in 1864 and was renamed Sigglesthorne ten years later. Sigglesthorne closed for goods in 1963 and entirely in 1964. The dismantled railway line now forms the Hornsea Rail Trail and the eastern stretch of the Trans Pennine Trail. The Trans Pennine Trail runs for 215 miles from Hornsea to Southport and was officially opened in September 2001.
