This picture shows a reminder of what built this village the Lady Victoria Colliery which is now the Scottish Mining Museum. The village was built by the Lothian Coal Company vand became the largest pit village in Scotland. In recent years the village has been rejuvenated and the old miners cottages of which there are rows and rows have been lovingly restored

Dist:0.1km north<br/>Derelict since 1967 and scrapped in 1983. An interesting mixture of traditional (four bar guides) and modern (drop valves above and below the cylinders). It was in quite a state and the security man from Lady Victoria took me across and let me do my stuff.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Conveyor bridge crossing the A7. This area was all formerly part of the colliery site but has now been developed for housing. This was the original bus terminal for the colliery, and an old shelter remains; regular bus services pass along the main road.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Formerly the Lady Victoria colliery, some of this part of the museum is only open on certain days of the week. However, if you turn up on the wrong day, you can revisit for free. The rest of the museum is very well done and well worth a visit anyway.
