Dist:0.7km<br/>Goatacre Lane is the spine through the village that most properties front onto. These cottages are about the only ones in the village to be this close to the lane. There is an interesting contrast between the slate roof of the cottage nearer the viewpoint and the thatched roof of its neighbour.

Dist:0.7km<br/>The field here fulfils both agricultural and sporting purposes. The silage bags contain the grass that grew here in the spring and, once they have gone, along with the cow, its cricketing role can take over.

Dist:0.7km<br/>For such a small village Goatacre is very well off for cricket grounds. This one, for the up and comers is to the south of the main cricket field attached to the village hall in the next square north.

Dist:0.8km<br/>The footpath runs beside the fence. In the past, maize was grown in Britain mainly as animal fodder, although sweetcorn varieties have been grown on a small scale in the south-east for the table. New varieties which will ripen in our climate have now been introduced. In Victorian times maize for silage was cut green and fed to cattle in June and July. Today it is left to become as ripe as possible and harvested with a special machine which chops stalk, leaf and head together; it is then stored in silos.
