A relic of an earlier time stands sentinel over new development in the former claypit/brickworks below it. At the junction of the A642 and (yes, you've guessed!) Chimney Lane.

Dist:0.3km<br/>This is one that the OS have lost track of. The 1850 map shows it and gives the distances: Huddersfield 3 miles, Penistone 9˝ miles, but by the mid-20C it was no longer shown. Although the next one towards Penistone was. The lettering is painted on cement render, which will not last much longer.

Dist:0.4km<br/>This building looks ecclesiastical, and has a foundation stone with a wheel-head cross and the date 1907. (see [[950028]]). The OS six-inch map of the 1930s has the caption 'Mission Room'. The bridge on the right is dated 1925, but there was a bridge here in 1850. It was on the boundary of Huddersfield County Borough, so perhaps that council shared the cost with the West Riding CC (although Almondbury did not become part of the borough until 1924). The Star Inn is at the right edge of the picture.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The A642 has been diverted so as not to approach the new roundabout tangentially, so the old road has become available as a car park for the residents. Cyclists are able to bypass the roundabout on a shared footway.
