Dist:0.9km north<br/>This is the trackwork at the jaws of the approach to Chingford station, with a complex set of points lower left and a straight diamond crossover visible above the brown insulator. There are train stabling sidings both off to the left in the photograph and behind the photographer. The photograph was taken from the footbridge linking Beresford Road with Cross Road, Stanley Road and Garfield Road to the west.

Dist:1.0km east<br/>Bancroft's was founded by the Drapers Company in 1727 and moved to its present imposing building in 1889. The arch under the red brick tower leads to the quadrangle and chapel.

Dist:1.0km north<br/>On the face of it this is just an ordinary residential road that was originally developed once the railway came to Chingford in 1878. But the houses on the left are highly decorated and topped out with extraordinary dragon finials on the gable ends! Note too the post with radiating overhead telephone cables, still a common site down many residential streets.

Dist:1.0km west<br/>The old level crossing on Hatch Lane was replaced by this underpass in the 1950s. The suburban line from Liverpool Street to Chingford crosses New Road, Chingford Hatch (A1009). The view is looking west, with central London to the left and Chingford to the right.

Dist:1.1km north<br/>Twenty three years after Neil's [[640822]] the bus on the Number 97 service in the centre of the photograph is still waiting to depart for Leyton, while the single decker on the Number 313 service is bound for Potters Bar Station. Chingford railway station is immediately to the right.

Dist:1.1km north<br/>This is the terminus of the line from Liverpool Street, completed in 1878. Journeys to Liverpool Street are scheduled at 26 minutes from here. Two different styles of units operated by One Railway await departure, 317660 on the left, 315860 on the right. Just out of sight to the right but on the trackbed beyond the buffers and the trellis fencing is a small garden.

Dist:1.2km north<br/>The Great Eastern Railway (GER) reached Chingford Green in 1873 and the current terminus shown here in 1878. However the GER's intention to extend the railway into the heart of Epping Forest to High Beech is evident insofar as the station layout is obviously planned as a through station. That scheme never came to fruition though.
