Dist:0.1km<br/>In the middle ages Grinton Church was the only place where funerals could be conducted in the whole of upper Swaledale. The departed had to be carried down to it by their friends and relatives.

Dist:0.1km<br/>Standing between the church and the river, Blackburn Hall is the finest house in Swaledale. It has an inscribed date of 1635, but this may just indicate a rebuild as some interior details are almost certainly medieval.

Dist:0.1km<br/>As the organiser of the Swale Charity Paddle flood debris in the river like this gives me cause to panic. I anticipated that over the next two months, floods would wash this downstream and leave it somewhere that would be a hazard to canoeists. In fact, I never saw it again - whereever it washed to, it was not in the 20 km down to Richmond.
