The Quarry is a large park which was created in 1719 and covers 23 acres. It gets its name from the fact that there was a small stone quarry here in the Middle Ages. [[[2004877]]] can be seen in the background, behind the trees.

The suspension bridge crosses the river about 300 yards downstream of the Welsh Bridge; it was presented to the town in 1922 by the Shropshire Horticultural Society.

This suspension footbridge was built in 1922 to connect The Quarry with the Porthill district of Shrewsbury.

Porthill Bridge (also sometimes referred to as Port Hill Footbridge) connects Porthill with The Quarry and Shrewsbury town centre. The suspension bridge for pedestrians opened in 1923, replacing a ferry which used to cross the River Severn at this point.
