As a young railway enthusiast, I was allowed into the signal box to watch and, on one occasion, allowed to ride on the engine footplate to Broughton in Furness and even to start the engine! None of that "Health and safety" nonsense in those days!

Dist:0.6km<br/>The start of a bridleway that, according to the map, runs down the Duddon Estuary to Dunnerholme, crossing the Duddon Channel several times. The small green signs warn "This route has natural hazards. Seek local guidance." This is probably one of the ancient packhorse routes.

Dist:0.6km<br/>This sign warns of the dangers of venturing onto Duddon Sands, but curiously it is facing the wrong way, greeting travellers who might have already crossed the sands, rather than facing inland and warning unsuspecting travellers attempting the bridleway crossing from Skellow Crag End.
