Dist:0.2km<br/>View north-east from the bridge. Only two cars in sight as the motorway carves through Dymock Wood. Built in 1960 (before the M5), this is one of the oldest stretches of motorway in the country. Even thought it has remained largely untouched, lots of lessons were learnt during its building. Dist:0.2km<br/>The M50 was one of the first motorways built in Britain, here the motorway crosses the course of the old Gloucester to Ledbury railway. The line closed to passengers in 1959 and the last goods train was on 30th May, 1964. The line used to pass through a cutting here, this was also the site of a station. Oddly there is now no evidence of the old cutting, without an OS map you may not realise this is the site of an old railway line. The transmitter is at Four Oaks beside the motorway.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Looking northwards along the footpath to this bridge, which is now being used to house farm machinery. This is the point where the single-track GWR Gloucester to Ledbury Railway passed under the motorway. The motorway opened in 1960 and the railway closed in 1964. The line was also known as the daffodil line, because all the fields around here were absolutely solid yellow with daffodils and they were harvested and sent all round the country from Dymock station.
