The rock used in the construction of the groynes was transported by barge from a quarry in Norway. It was then moored 2km off the shoreline and unloaded into smaller 'trans-shipment' barges, which transported and deposited the rock on the beach. Large excavators fitted with rock grapples then placed the rocks into designated shapes to form the structure. Approx 210,000 tons of rock were used to build 3 rock groynes and a rock headland.

This country park is near Folkestone. This meadow has been planted on a terrace above the promenade along the sea.

Looking westwards near the eastern end of the park. This is called the formal zone and consists of seating areas, paths and formally laid out beds. The park in total covers 11 hectares and the first phase was opened in May, 2000. The second phase opened in May, 2006.

Looking towards the eastern entrance. Leas Cliff lift building can be seen in the distance. At present the lift is closed but it looks as though it is being painted so perhaps the lift will eventually be re-installed.

Looking towards Folkestone harbour along the relatively new sea wall. A great deal of work has been done here in 2004 to help protect the harbour. Rock groynes, beach nourishment and the rising of the sea wall. This is an excellent and safe location to bring school children to look at coastal defences and their sheer scale.

Dist:0.1km<br/>It is not until you are close up that you see the occasional evidence of the human effort to construct these massive rock groynes. (There are plenty of locations along the south coast of England). The parallel lines could only have been made by a drill. For the project five new rock groynes,utilising 210,000 tonnes of rock armour was imported from Norway.
