Dist:0.2km<br/>An old track follows the eastern edge as it travels southwards through the common. The trees on the left are on a boundary which marks the separation of the common from Little Rotherfield Wood as well as the parish boundary between Chailey and Newick.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Up to recently it was found in a wooded area of the common but as can be seen much of that has been cleared and the marker is now in the open. It was commissioned in 1953 by the then lord of the manor of Balneath, Ivor Grantham. The inscription reads: "1953 THIS STONE HAS BEEN ERECTED ON LANE END COMMON IN THE PARISH OF CHAILEY NEAR THE CENTRE OF SUSSEX 159 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL TO MARK THE POINT WHERE THE GREENWICH MERIDIAN CROSSES THE MANOR OF BALNEATH"

Dist:0.3km<br/>Made by cattle over the centuries entering and leaving the common finding alternative paths when one became too boggy to walk down. This is the northern tip of Lane End Common near the A275 which can just be seen through the trees, much of the border areas are woodland with a tract of heath in the middle.

Dist:0.3km<br/>A waterlogged area of the northern tip of the common. The view will soon change as the A275 visible beyond is due to be fenced off to enable livestock to graze on the commons in order to keep the landscape as heathland. Although currently part of Chailey Common Lane End was originally part of Fletching Common which lay next to the former but expanded eastwards. Much of that was enclosed during the 17th century leaving this small area.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The A275 heading northwards past Little Rotherfield Wood. From this point to Sheffield Bridge the road is the parish boundary between Chailey to the west and Newick to the east.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Built in the mid 1880s to carry the unnamed lane from Fletching over the newly constructed Lewes to East Grinstead line. The bridge and railway here were built on the south east corner of the common. The line was closed in 1958 though the northern section from Sheffield Park is now part of the Bluebell Railway. The lane itself was added when much of the land south and east of the common was enclosed in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Dist:0.3km<br/>One kilometre north is Sheffield Park Station the start of the Bluebell line, who hope to complete the rest of the line restoration to East Grinstead, in the next few years.
